Kilgore is in partly Greg County and part in north Rusk County in East
Texas. Kilgore has over 12,000 residents. Kilgore is adjacent to Interstate
20. Dallas is one hundred and twenty miles west of Kilgore. Shreveport
is about sixty miles east of Kilgore. The discovery of oil in Kilgore
in 1930 led to its booming economy. Thousands traveled to Kilgore to seek
their fortune. Texas Ranger had to restore order in Kilgore on many occasions
in its past history. The East Texas Oil Museum is also situated in Kilgore.
The Museum is located in the Kilgore College campus site. Many artifacts
and photographic records are exhibited here outlining past events in Kilgore
history.
